Tackling Loneliness with Togetherall: Mental Health Awareness Week 9th-15th May

We’re talking about loneliness for Mental Health Awareness Week. It’s more common than you might think to feel lonely at university, especially when you go online and it seems like everyone else is having the best time. Social media is a great tool for connecting with others but comparing yourself to someone’s ‘highlight reel’ can make you feel more isolated.

Togetherall have some suggestions for ways you can feel better:

  1. Set a daily intention – This means setting a small goal each day to help you feel better. If you find scrolling on social media is causing you to feel anxious or lonely, try setting a goal to cut down the time you spend online and do something that you enjoy instead! You might try getting some exercise or completing one of Togetherall’s online courses. There are courses available on a range of topics, including managing stress and worry, improving sleep and increasing productivity.
  2. Connect with others – When you’re feeling lonely it can be hard to reach out but widening your network can give you more of a sense of belonging and you’ll find others who share the same experiences. As well as talking to friends, family or people on your course, you can talk to others anonymously on Togetherall’s safe online mental health community.

You can sign up to Togetherall here for free access to a range of online self-help courses and a mental health community that is available 24/7.
